SpearTip’s management team is comprised of highly skilled professionals from the IT,

counterintelligence, audit and electrical system control fields.

Jarrett Kolthoff
President / CEO

Jarrett has over two decades of experience in the Information Security field.

As a former Special Agent – U.S. Army Counterintelligence, Jarrett has experience in cyber investigations, counterintelligence, and Fusion Cell analysis that helps SpearTip’s clients identify, assess, neutralize, and exploit threats leveled against their corporations.

Jarrett’s civil casework includes investigations in anti-trust lawsuits, embezzlement, collusion, theft of intellectual property, and corporate espionage. He has testified in civil cases as an expert computer forensic witness in depositions in the U.S. Federal Court – Eastern District of Missouri, and has acted as a liaison between companies and law enforcement agencies, with the following certifications: CISSP & GCFA.

Jarrett has led assignments throughout the United States with both national and international corporations. He continues to actively serve his community in a variety of organizations, including:

Jason Wood
Vice President / General Manager

Jason, former CW5/Special Agent – U.S. Army Counterintelligence, brings SpearTip over 25 years of experience in security management, life safety programs, and intelligence operations.

Jason is a recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing senior level counsel and advice on counterintelligence (CI) specific operations, doctrine, concepts, methodologies, analysis and training. His background includes leadership positions at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, White House Military Office, and U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence.

During Jason’s career, he has conducted operations in the U.S. and overseas to detect, identify, neutralize, and defeat threats to national security. He has also worked with private industry and Department of Defense agencies to implement control measures at sensitive and classified facilities to protect against unauthorized disclosure, acts of terrorism, espionage, sabotage, compromise, misuse, theft and loss.

At SpearTip, Jason utilizes his real-world experiences in combating advanced collection efforts launched by domestic and foreign entities, particularly those from China and Russia.

Larry McClain
Director of Digital Forensics Services

Larry has over 23 years of law enforcement, investigative, and computer forensics experience, including 12 years assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division, O’Fallon, MO Police Department, and 8½ years detached to the Regional Computer Crime Education Enforcement Group (RCCEEG), Clayton, MO.

Larry is certified through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a Digital Evidence Acquisition Specialist (DEAS) and a Seized Evidence Recovery Specialist (SCERS). Larry has exceptional training, invaluable experience, and maintains certifications in computer forensic and cellular/mobile device forensic investigations, including as a Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE), Digital Forensics Certified Practitioner (DFCP), and Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI).

Courtroom & Legal Expertise

Larry has testified as an expert witness in various high profile criminal cases involving computer and other electronic crimes in state and federal courts. He has established great working relationships with the U.S. Attorney’s Office as well as various state level prosecutors’ offices, where he is valued for his expertise in presenting and interpreting electronic evidence for judges and juries.

Benjamin Auton
Director of Managed Security Services

Ben holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security. Ben has a well-rounded background in system administration and engineering. His area of focus at SpearTip is the ShadowSpear Protection Services.

In his role, Ben leads the team that provides SpearTip’s clients with on-going protection against advanced threats. He is engaged in network and host-based malware detection. Using threat intelligence feeds and malware behavior analysis, Ben provides actionable intelligence and recommendations for clients. Ben is passionate about cyber security research and is an Adjunct Professor of Cybersecurity at Maryville University. He teaches evening and online courses in network security, penetration testing, and digital forensics.

Don Caniglia
Director of Audit Services

Don has been providing Information Systems Audit, financial/operational audit, information security consulting services and IT Audit and security training primarily to the financial services industry for more than 40 years.

Don has been a Certified Systems Auditor since 1984, and a Certified Information Security Manager since 2000. In 2010, Don earned the Certified Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) designation from the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).

With over 30 years direct experience in Banking and S&L operational Audit, IS Audit, Systems Support and Information Security, Don has focused on providing IT Audit, Security and Compliance, Risk and Governance consultation services primarily to financial services industry over the past decade.

Brian Westbrook
Director of Control Systems

Brian holds a degree with honors in Control Systems, Instrumentation, and Process Control.

Brian leads SpearTip’s efforts in assessing security threats and stability of PLC, SCADA, HMI and electrical systems.

He has extensive training and experience installing new control systems, and assessing existing ones, in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and weapons manufacturing industries, with expertise in:

  • Batching control
  • HVAC
  • Water and sewage
  • Packaging
  • Shipping / receiving
  • Conveyor systems

Known for his strategic focus and attention to detail, Brian also has assisted several clients in their (FDA) Title 21 CFR Part 11 electronic record and electronic signatures, IQ / OQ / PQ validation process. His disciplines include PLC, SCADA/HMI, batch, networking, and data management.
